Michaelmas Our yearly Michaelmas celebration usually looks something like this: Circle - (before, during, and after the official week of Michaelmas) http://www.waldorflibrary.org/Journal_Articles/GW4007.pdf
Snack
-
Dragon bread for snack (prepared by volunteer families and shared with
everyone). The dragon bread can be made from any bread recipe, then shaped
into dragon bread or rolls (I have only made rolls). Use almonds halves
and raisins to decorate. The children love
this. Craft - Make dragon kites ahead of time and then fly them on Michaelmas Capes – we made golden capes with marigold petal dye. When we present the cape to each child (every year), we say “I give you this cape of light, to give you courage, strength, and might”. Directions for capes are here. Games – beanbag throw into plywood with holes in it. Dragon tears – walk balance beam and pick up a dragon tear stone, child keeps the stone. The games are changed to reflect the children’s ages. The older children held a wooden balancing pole as they walked across the beam. The younger ones simply walked across (more or less)! I believe this idea came from Marsha Johnson. She has more ideas for Michaelmas games in the files of her yahoo group. Story – St. George and the Dragon - http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/stgeorge2.html
